Illinois Artists on Exhibit at Gallery Seven

October is “Artist Month” in Illinois and to commemorate it, Gallery Seven, 200 West 8th Street, Lockport is celebrating in a big way. Over 50 artists from Illinois will be on exhibit during October. And you do not want to miss the reception on Saturday, October 5th, 6-8 p.m. where State Representative John Connor will present the awards to the winners of the juried fine art exhibit.

Barbara Eberhard from Gallery Seven has been curating this show.
“This exhibit is very exciting as artists from across Illinois are participating. The mediums are as varied as where the artists hail from. Oils, pastels, photography, sculpture…the work is incredible.”

A highlight of the exhibit is work by Maggie Capettini Gin Blossom
“My sister came up for a visit from Terre Haute, bringing with her a gift of sunflowers from her community garden plot at University of Indiana where she teaches. I put them in a mason jar of water on the counter in the kitchen. Later, my eye was caught by the contrast yellow of the sunflowers against the black bottle of Henrick’s Gin that rested next to them on the counter, and the inspiration to paint took hold. The painting is done with a limited palette, using only alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow light, ultramarine blue, and titanium white. The paint is applied with painting knives rather than brushes, and the attention to the texture and quality of the paint itself is an important part of my artistic process.”

The artist reception on October is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Come out and show support for the artists of Illinois.

Gallery Seven is managed by a group of local artists, located at 200 West 8th Street, Lockport, in the historic Gaylord Building. This free gallery is open to the public Wednesday – Saturday, Noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday Noon to 3 p.m. All exhibited work at Gallery Seven is for sale.
