Join us as we celebrate the preservation of the Gaylord Building and the creation of the I&M Canal National Heritage Area – the nation’s first National Heritage Area.
On August 24, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation creating the I&M Canal National Heritage Area, the nation’s first National Heritage Area. In his dedication speech, Reagan referred to National Heritage Areas “a new kind of national park” that married heritage conservation, recreation, and economic development. Since then, the National Park Service has designated 62 National Heritage Areas.
On August 4 at the Gaylord Building Historic Site, we welcome special guests Barbara Donnelley and Jerry Adelmann, who will discuss their pivotal roles in creating the National Heritage Area and in restoring the Gaylord Building.
Your presence is warmly requested as we honor the past and embrace the future.
Tickets are $25.00 and include appetizers and soft drinks. A cash bar will also be available.
Let’s make history together!
